THE FOLLOWING IS FROM MIKE WHITAKER, WHO IS BOTH AN SLF RESIDENT AS WELL AS A MEMBER OF THE PLANNING & ZONING BOARD OF THE CITY OF ALABASTER.
MIKE HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN THE EFFORT TO ESTABLISH A WORKABLE ZONING DESIGNATION FOR SLF, AS WE LOST OUR COUNTY ZONING WHEN GOING INTO THE CITY.
AT THE OCTOBER BOARD MEETING (10/9/17), MIKE WHITAKER AND SHERRI PROCTOR (BOTH REPRESENTING THE CITY) PRESENTED THE ZONING PLAN TO THE SLF BOARD AND RESIDENTS IN ATTENDENCE.
THE BELOW LINK IS TO THE DOCUMENT THAT DESCRIBES THIS ZONING PLAN. THE CITY HAS THE AUTHORITY TO ENACT ANY ZONING THEY LIKE,

Good Day SLF Board,
In late September the Planning and Zoning board had a meeting and work session to finish hammering out the proposed zoning for Saddle Lake Farms.
I have attached the document for your review. It is very much like the proposal that I have sent you in the past.
The difference would be is that we would not have a “zoning number. We would be considered a “PRD” known as a Planned Residential Development.
This affords us the best of all worlds since it is created specifically for our neighborhood using averages for three sections we currently have.
It would also allow for minimums on square footage and adequate setbacks. It would also give the HOA oversight on all new construction with the
backing of the city for all permits and enforcement. Sherri Proctor has volunteered to attend the next scheduled meeting to review with all of you and myself.
If this is acceptable we can then make sure there are no objections or hurdles and send for final approval of the Alabaster Planning & Zoning board as well as
the city council for final approval and recording. I have also asked that they “waive” fees to our subdivision for advertising and other related expenses.
